Dateline Southern Douglas County, June 27, 2014: Today, Kevin Phariss, History Colorado Tour Guide, led an expedition of fifteen folks through a fascinating and educational History Colorado Tour of early twentieth century southern Douglas County. The tour project was coordinated by Jim and Janet Weglarz among Larkspur Historical Society, Castle Rock Historical Society and Museum and Douglas County History Research Center. Starting at the Greenland Townsite, the group learned about the Greenland School from Larry Schlupp, and then did a walking tour of the current Greenland Post Office grant work area and the Townsite project with Larkspur Historical Society’s Glen and Bob Leise. After the Greenland Townsite area, the tour group drove to Spring Valley and toured the Spring Valley Cemetery and Chapel with Larkspur Historical Society member, Dennis Burdick, and Douglas County History Research Center Archivist Shaun Boyd. From the Spring Valley Cemetery, the tour group headed to Castle Rock where Castle Rock Historical Society and Museum members, Angie DeLeo and Jim Hansman, guided a trolley car excursion of Castle Rock historical sites as well as the Castle Rock Museum. The tour participants really enjoyed themselves. Good work Larkspur, Castle Rock and Douglas County History Research Center!
