Ada Bucks Loraine
Ada, the daughter of an early pioneer of Spring
Valley, Harrison Bucks, was born December 28, 1877 on the family
homestead. Her mother Sally died December 10, 1888 of pneumonia
shortly after the birth of her sixth child, George; and Ada, at age
twelve, had to become mother to her siblings. Ada attended
Spring
Valley School and East Denver High School. After receiving her
teaching certificate from Greeley, Ada came back to teach at Spring
Valley School. She married Joseph Loraine and they settled on a ranch
3 miles east of Greenland. They had three daughters, Ruth, Beatrice
and Julia, who died in infancy. Ada passed away in 1946. The Lorraine
(Loraine) Ranch still stands west of Spring Valley and is currently a
working cattle ranch.
