Burke Ranch (Haystack)

This is a photo of the Burke ranch in 1900. John Burke was born in Ireland in 1842; he came to America after his marriage to Bridget Neehan in 1860. First living in New York they drifted west with the construction of the rail road as John was a rail road contractor in those days. It was 1881 when the couple came to Douglas County and started ranching raising cattle. A short ten years later the couple moved to Castle Rock. Mr. Burke was at one time the County Coroner. John and Bridget had five children.
