LHS Overview

The Larkspur Historical Society (LHS) is dedicated to identifying, collecting, and preserving the history and people that lived in southern Douglas County, Colorado, and the South Platte and Arkansas river divide. LHS provides educational programs for the general public and area school children. We provide opportunities to visit Historic buildings and sites normally closed to the general public.

We support the other Douglas County entities in their efforts through presentations, re-enactments, community projects, and celebrations.

what is the history of LHS?

A semblance of LHS existed in the 1970s and 1980s, and scant handwritten minutes were taken.  The Larkspur Historical Society became a 501(c) (3) organization and was registered with the Colorado Secretary of State in 1990. The four founding members in 1990 were Betty Prince, Danna Hamling, Ida Mae Noe, and Penny Burdick. In 1998, Larry Schlupp was elected as secretary-treasurer of LHS; the presidential torch then passed from Penny Burdick to Danna Hamling.

Are volunteers needed?

Yes. LHS is an all-volunteer organization. Your interests and energy dictate opportunities. We need help organizing, mapping, and re-interpreting content, and creating and delivering educational programs. We maintain the 1874 Crull Cabin, as well as artifacts from the local area. The LHS Projects Page lists some recent activities.
