Divide Country
The LHS area of interest is focused on Southern Douglas County, Colorado, but includes a larger area known as Divide Country. Divide Country refers to a region along the Colorado Front Range that separates the drainage basins of the Arkansas River to the south and the South Platte River to the north. This area is defined by its location along the Palmer Divide.
The area is characterized by rolling hills, ponderosa pine forests, and grasslands, distinct from both the higher mountains to the west and the plains to the east. Communities include the areas of Larkspur, Greenland, Perry Park, Spring Valley, and Cherry Valley.
Trivia: At one time, the residents of Divide Country considered forming a separate county. No such county was ever established, and the region today remains divided among Douglas, El Paso and Elbert County.
