Edwin Greener
Ed Greener became a mail carrier in
Greenland in 1922, delivering the mail by horse and buggy three
days a week. He became the community messenger in addition to bringing
eggs, milk and medicine when needed. A new route was established in
1920 out of Greenland, which went east to Spring
Valley and back to Greenland along today’s Jones Road.
In 1912, he married Emily Ellen Buckner, daughter of James and Mahala
Buckner, early residents of Spring Valley. Emily was a station agent
for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad, beginning before he
was married and continuing after her children were born.
Mr. Greener delivered the mail until 1959 when the post office in
Greenland closed.
